Finally getting around to this game
« on: December 06, 2009, 01:38:19 AM »

I'm finally getting around to playing this game.  I know it's somewhat late but it's just one of the games i've missed in the past and wanted to play since it is very much similar to Fallout 3 in some ways but with an entire different theme.  I was looking to get opinions on this game from other people.

Spectacular game indeed. I like Morrowind more as it is immersive, but Oblivion still has many fine features. After you get used to the game, head to http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/categories.php for mods.

I also advise you to get this http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5296 as it fixes sooo many bugs. BethSoft got lazy once they realized that the modders could do their work for them. I feel bad for those that play this on console! Bahaha. Oh, wait. I used to D:

And, as I am a challenge freak, this overhaul is a MUST HAVE: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=3953

This mod adds so much more to the game. So many new quests, items, new enemies, adds treasure worth stealing from the homes of unsuspecting NPCs, etc. Definitely try that out. Also makes the game much more difficult.

I know about the mods for it but I just haven't really gotten around to playing it.  I played Fallout 3 and modded it but right now i'm still playing Borderlands and still modding Resident Evil 5.  It just gets hard to have time to get to every time but I do try.  Many people have praised Oblivion highly so I do intend to play it.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I got into Oblivion almost a month after it was released. I fell in love with it and learned near everything there is about the game. Still play it, but it has gotten pretty continuous. I guess it's time to find another mod that alters the beginning of the game... :|

My problem tends to be that I really have to play a game completely through and know everything about it before i'm willing to mod it because I feel if I don't know everything about what happens in a game like story, characters, weapons and so on then I just feel if I don't know all of that then I might not be able to mod it as well as i'd like to.  When I play one game and mod another and then take into account everything else I do on a daily basis, time just isn't always on my side at all lol.  I will play Oblivion but I know I won't be modding it because I just feel it's a bit too old because surely there will be something new coming along sometime like Elder Scrolls V?

I haven't looked to see if there is one but I assume there isn't or else I wouldn't see so much around the internet regarding Oblivion.  Many modders mod games more for the benefit of others rather than themselves.  I imagine at least 80% or more of the mods I release for games are via request by others but it's enjoyable and having input and ideas from many people is the best way to be able to produce the best and most enjoyable mods.  If I only modded what I like then that would leave out people that would like to see something else so variety is good.  If you've looked at the Resident Evil 5 mods i've released since the game came out, you'll see i've made a very large variety of mods.  Although that particular game has ran it's course in fun for me, I still mod it via request but that game did get me modding again.

For a while, I just was caught up in too many other things and didn't mod any and actually didn't play games as often but I began working for myself a few years ago and well I was mostly content with just playing a game but then Fallout 3 came out and was very moddable and then Resident Evil 5 came out and people were releasing mods and most of the mods were just so buggy that I felt I needed to create my own proper mods and since I have so much more time now days, I try to make use of it.  I mostly sell on Ebay and some other stuff locally but this forum and the web site I created to host mods I create will also eventually be a reasonable source of income.

Some of the other stuff I do for money takes up more time than i'd like so if this here goes well then I would definitely have more time to focus on modding games and playing the games so that I can properly mod them.  I've seen people mod games that they haven't even played and well the results never were even close to what they could be.  I do feel it's important to know the game before modding it and to be able to play it so that each mod can be properly tested.  Well i've modded Resident Evil 5 so much in so many ways that I don't have to test anything for that since I already know the result without seeing it in the game.  I have played a few hours of Oblivion and enjoyed it so far but I haven't let myself get caught up in it yet because I know that might take up too much time.  I'd like to finish some things i'm working on first before getting to that more.

I'm hoping this forum can eventually gain a reasonable base of modders though one day for modding PC games.  I know it can be hard, sometimes really hard, to find mods for certain games.  That was one of my reasons for creating this forum so that no matter what the PC game is, it can be talked about here and possibly mods created for it.  I do hope this goes how I want it to, and hopefully it will help produce more mods for games that may have otherwise not had any mods.  Also I do hope it grows and makes money since it does cost me money to have my own web site, web host and all that stuff but that is what the ads are for.  I'd never want to have a web site that asks people to pay for anything so the ads cost nothing to have but will help to support this since I intend to keep this site permanently.  I just now noticed how long of a novel I just typed lol so i'm stopping here.

I'll end it with this though, I enjoy modding because it adds fun back to games that otherwise would reach their end of life for people.  Modding can create so much new content and keep games alive longer and in most cases actually improve the game greatly from its original state.  I think I need to get out of my blogging mode though.  I had a professional blog for quite some time but felt I wanted to go in a direction that I enjoyed more and this is it.

Godly game, nuff said. It did lack quite a few things, especially certain ones that could've been done so much better. It wasn't a very buggy game as far as I experienced, which is rare for a sanbox/freeroam game.
