Yea, playing games at max quality settings is the only way to go.  I had the unthinkable happen the other day, my video card quit, just like that it started lagging, freezing then came lines and so on but it didn't overheat, I never could determine what actually happened to it but fortunately bfg offers a lifetime warranty on it so I sent that off.  Fortunately I had another slightly better one in another computer to put in this one while waiting on it to be replaced.

Well, fortunately I don't have to stop modding since I have another pc almost identical so I just took the video card out of it until my preferred one is replaced which hopefully won't take BFG long to do.  I still buy and sell computer parts enough that I have a steady supply of anything and everything just incase something ever quits, I can at least compromise.  Fortunately everything in this PC has good warranties, except for the hard drives of course, they usually only come with a 1 year warranty now days.  I'm hell on hard drives due to the amount of work I put them through so I usually get to take advantage of those warranties on them.

I'm pretty good at wearing a hard drive out before it's a year old and having it replaced.  If I could afford them i'd want SSD's since they would last much longer than HDD's.  Several of my HDD's are doing things 24/7, this pc never is turned off except the occasional blowing dust out of the case.

Yea that would be nice.  I'm close to it I suppose, 32in hdtv as my main screen for my pc with a second lcd as well.  15 speaker 5.1 surround adds to it so it works for me.  The speakers were mostly for movies but some games have proper surround, not all but i'd say a lot of them do.  Since Vista got rid of directsound and used openAL which is actually dolby surround, games started having surround.  Once the directsound, which was geared mostly for EAX, once it was gone, games had the chance to take big steps in audio and not limit it to sound blaster owners.

Yeeeahhh,i'm with 5x1 surround too,and some games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 have option for 5x1 in the audio options, and indeed the sound is amazing,i played CoDMW2 with very loud sound, and i freaked out the neighbors man.... ;D ;D try it out.

My pc speaker set was actually 11 speakers but I had a previous set, the identical same thing, after a few years the amplifier for it quit so I bought the same exact model again and decided to use some of the spare speakers for the rear to get the rear channels louder.  Sadly the surround is flawed for ME1 and ME2 but it's acceptable but still poorly done but this is almost definitely because ME1 and ME2 were ported from console to PC, I believe.  If that is the case then that would be why some things are sloppy because most people that play games on consoles do not use surround sound so I assume ensuring surround is great is not a priority for games originally made for consoles.

I sure am glad that it is very rare for speakers to quit because I would not know what to do with myself if these quit.  This model is not new at all, i've had these for many years and they're still perfect in my opinion.  I've looked before and it's harder to find this quality of surround pc speakers for the price I paid.  I only paid $80 for these new at best buy, many years ago but still, last time I looked the closest match was around $100 but most speaker sets are only 6 speakers.  These have 2 small speakers in each enclosure so that's where I got the number of 11 originally.  two front ones have 4 speakers, same for rear and two speakers in the center channel enclosure and one woofer.

Amazingly this 5in woofer produces bass as if it were an 8 or 10in subwoofer.  I don't think I could ever go back to no surround sound, surround has saved my life several times in games that properly make use of it.  I remember some FPS games where I could hear enemies coming behind me or whatever and because of the surround I knew where they were and could turn around and get them before they got me but without surround you'd never know where they were coming from sometimes.

Sound is important indeed, and you are right about the sound in ME 1,2 it aint so cool with surround, hah the first time i plugged in my sound,i messed up the position of the speakers, and when i played CS i hear the footsteps from the rear but the guy was comming from the front and i turn arround and nothing, well i took a headshot becouse i messed the speakers, but i fixed them eventually and now the  sound is superb.

Yup, sound is very important.  I sure couldn't stand playing in silence or with just 2 speakers.  I say the surround in me2 is wrong because I even lowered the front and center channels by 25% to help bring out the rear and one day I did a test.  I got in a spot with certain noises and sounds, mostly people talking to each other.  I would move the mouse around to hear how the voices went through the speakers and only around 20 degrees of the full 360 degrees was proper for the rear.  It's ok I suppose, ME2 is not a slow spooky horror game that lives and dies from it's audio presentation.  Now i am happy bioshock had superb surround, I couldn't imagine that game without it.  I'm going to try out bioshock 2 soon and finish up bioshock 1, i've put it off forever.

I never play shooters with a pad, it just feels wrong and is much slower compared to a mouse.

You're right, mouse is always better for shooting games.

yeah most shooters are better play with mouse. Though  I think Halo, Gears and Orange Box (except for TF2) work well with pad.
